In this newly created position, you will support the ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that the MPG has set itself in its Climate Action Plan, in particular by supplying the MPG with electricity from renewable sources (green electricity). The newly created staff unit "Sustainability Office" will bundle the central sustainability-related areas of responsibility in the fields of policy, cooperation and communication, energy supply, energy efficiency and climate protection and will work closely with other specialist departments of the MPG's General Administration and with the Max Planck Institutes as a cross-sectional unit.

Your tasks will be in particular

  • Supervision and coordination of the green electricity supply of the MPG at the interface to the central purchasing department of the MPG on the one hand and to the service provider of the green electricity supply on the other (EU tendering procedure, master data collection, strategic electricity tranche procurement, maintenance of purchase points, etc.)
  • Management of the MPG-internal "AG Energie", the central advisory body for the energy supply of the Max Planck Institutes
  • Energy cost and market analyses
  • Preparation of energy consumption forecasts (currently approx. 200 consumption points); evaluation of load profiles of the Max Planck Institutes and development of proposals for the optimization (reduction/avoidance) of peak loads
  • Development of alternative energy supply concepts (PV, wind power, geothermal energy, etc.) including the design of electricity buffers, possibly using battery stations or material storage systems
  • Collaboration on cross-energy source strategies and cascade models (e.g. waste heat utilization, power-to-heat), economic evaluation of measures, concepts for cost optimization and market-oriented green electricity procurement

What you bring with you

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (Master's, Magister, Diplom) in a field relevant to the tasks
  • Several years of professional experience in the areas of energy supply/energy industry/energy trading
  • Sound knowledge of the electricity market (EEX, spot and OTC trading, PPAs) including balancing group management
  • Experience in profitability analyses, price forecasts and procurement strategies
  • Knowledge of energy industry products and flexibility options (base/peak products, peak shaving, storage, HKN, PPAs)
  • Experience in dealing with AI applications or the willingness to familiarize yourself with corresponding systems
  • Analytical, structured way of working and strong communication skills
  • High ability to work in a team and stress resistance, combined with a high degree of self-motivation
  • Very good organizational and conceptual skills and a confident manner
  • Business fluent in German and English

You will work in a small, highly motivated team within the General Administration of the MPG, which is concerned with the transformation of the entire organization into a sustainable research operation. Depending on your qualifications and professional experience, we offer you a permanent employment contract with pay up to salary group 14 TVöD Bund (with a proven Master's, Magister or Diplom degree) as well as various social benefits. You can find non-binding information on salary in the public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). Your workplace is located in the center of Munich and is easily accessible by public transport. Childcare facilities for children aged 6 months to 3 years are available in the vicinity of the office building.
