Energy Industry Specialist – Focus on Smart Metering Systems (f/m/d)

The energy sector is changing rapidly: Conventional meters will soon be a thing of the past—smart metering systems (iMSys) are taking over. Highly encrypted, networked, and—in the future—even capable of controlling systems. To ensure these systems run reliably, we need people who understand how the technology behind them works and how the processes interact. This is exactly where you come in.

Your Responsibilities

  • As an Energy Industry Specialist—Focus on Smart Metering Systems—you’ll ensure that our smart metering systems do what they’re supposed to: measure accurately, communicate securely, and be processed seamlessly within our systems.
  • Develop and optimize system processes for smart metering systems by defining workflows in the SAP environment, identifying opportunities for optimization, providing clear and precise guidance to IT service providers, and approving new developments from a technical perspective.
  • Identify, analyze, and permanently resolve errors: You investigate why a process is failing, document errors in detail, create support tickets, and escalate issues as needed. Your goal: to ensure that systematic errors no longer occur in the future.
  • Monitoring the operation of smart metering systems: You set up smart metering systems in SAP and monitor their ongoing operation. You ensure that meter readings are received completely, plausibly, and correctly in the energy data management system and continue to develop our monitoring capabilities.
  • Helping to shape projects and implement legal requirements: You’ll participate in projects while keeping an eye on the Metering Point Operations Act and the Energy Industry Act. In doing so, you’ll work closely with other municipal utilities, grid operators, our market communications team, and other stakeholders.

Your Qualifications

  • You’ve come to the right place if you’re interested in working in a rapidly evolving field and enjoy trying new things, creating new structures, and finding solutions on your own. Above all, you should enjoy IT processes, structured testing, troubleshooting, and working with interfaces.
  • Education or Training & Continuing Education: You have a bachelor’s degree (e.g., in Business Informatics or Energy Management) or have completed a commercial or technical vocational training program with state-recognized continuing education, such as a certification as an Energy Specialist.
  • Professional Experience/Expertise: Ideally, you have experience in the energy industry, equipment management, or metering in conjunction with SAP IS-U or similar systems.
  • Personal Skills: You have strong communication skills, a creative, independent, and flexible approach to work, good analytical thinking skills, and an affinity for numbers and IT processes.

Benefits

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible work schedules, flex time (Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.), the option to work from home, and 30 days of vacation per year (Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are also days off) create a work environment that is highly compatible with your personal life.
  • Attractive Compensation: You will receive compensation in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for public utilities, including a 13th month’s salary, as well as collectively agreed-upon allowances, anniversary bonuses, a profit-sharing plan, and an individual performance bonus.
  • Retirement planning: A company-sponsored retirement plan, 100% funded by the employer, is a given at our company.
  • Professional Development: Through a comprehensive range of training courses and individualized professional development opportunities, you can continue to grow both professionally and personally.
  • Convenient Commute: Free parking directly behind the building, a bus stop right outside the door, company bicycle leasing options, and a free Germany-wide ticket for public transportation make your commute easier.
  • Cafeteria: In our company cafeteria, you can enjoy fresh, healthy, and varied meals every day.
  • Health and fitness programs: Various programs, such as health days, sports programs, and a fitness room, promote your well-being.
  • Employee discounts: As a resident of Solingen and an employee of Stadtwerke Solingen GmbH, you’ll receive an employee rate for electricity and gas.
  • Family-like environment: Look forward to a future where team spirit, mutual support, and enjoying your work are top priorities. Team-based activities (e.g., orientation days, charitable events, employee gatherings, company outings) are important to us.
  • Do you want to shape your future with us? At Stadtwerke Solingen, you can expect not only a secure job but also a meaningful role with a promising future. Personal development, responsibility, and shaping the energy transition go hand in hand here. We look forward to receiving your application, including your earliest possible start date and salary expectations. You can apply via this link: Online Application .
