Quant Trader (m/f/d) Renewable Energy

As the operator of one of Europe’s largest virtual power plants, we connect thousands of electricity generators, consumers, and storage systems, thereby forming a strong team dedicated to renewables. That’s why we don’t see ourselves merely as an electricity trader, energy service provider, or cleantech company. We are “the Power of Many” for the energy transition!
“When developing profitable trading strategies, we use both qualitative and quantitative methods. On the one hand, we’re directly involved in current market activity and have to make decisions based on the situation; on the other hand, we analyze market dynamics on a theoretical, abstract level. This interplay not only provides the perfect conditions for successful strategy development but also offers exciting and varied tasks that allow me to learn something new every day.” Kai, Quant Trader at Next Kraftwerke

Your Responsibilities

  • The European spot electricity market is one of the most dynamic and data-driven markets in the world: weather conditions change, forecasts shift, and liquidity is fragmented across national borders. As a quant trader, you understand these dynamics and can translate them into scalable, algorithmic trading strategies. With your passion for data and fascination with energy markets and trading, you’ve come to the right place. You always make rational decisions, think in terms of expected values, and enjoy taking calculated risks. You’ll be responsible for trading decisions and will be actively involved in current market developments. At the same time, you’ll work closely with a team of six who share knowledge, challenge ideas, and celebrate shared successes. For us, flexible work arrangements aren’t just empty words—they’re a reality we live by. Whether full-time or part-time—let us know how we can find common ground on this. Apply now
  • You independently identify new trading ideas and sources of alpha—particularly based on weather, forecast, and market data.
  • You continuously develop, implement, and optimize algorithmic intraday strategies.
  • You analyze forecast errors (wind, solar, load) and translate them into concrete trading signals.
  • You integrate quantitative models, market data, and execution logic into end-to-end trading systems.
  • You will operate strategies in live trading and be responsible for their performance in terms of P&L and risk profile.
  • You identify and exploit market inefficiencies across multiple European markets.

Your Qualifications

  • You have a master’s degree (M.Sc.), ideally with a focus on energy economics, and have 3–5 years of experience in proprietary trading—preferably in algorithmic/systematic intraday trading in the electricity market or on commodity futures markets.
  • You have a proven track record of developing profitable trading strategies.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of statistics, time series analysis, and data-driven work; you possess very strong programming skills in R, Python, or Bash; and you are open to the efficient use of AI tools.
  • You have experience working with weather data, forecasts, forecast errors, as well as order book data, tick data, and market microstructure.
  • You take responsibility for your results, make well-informed decisions quickly even under time pressure, and think entrepreneurially.
  • You have a team-oriented mindset and view success not just as an individual achievement, but as a collective result.
  • You are fluent in both spoken and written German and English.
