Biogas is a versatile renewable energy source used to generate electricity and heat, as well as a fuel. MVV Biogas GmbH and MVV Biomethan GmbH together form the Biogas Business Unit of MVV Energie AG, a leading German energy company with over 6,800 employees and annual revenue of approximately 6.1 billion euros in fiscal year 2025.
MVV’s Biogas Business Unit develops, builds, and operates biogas and biomethane plants. These currently include two biowaste digestion plants in Dresden and Bernburg, as well as four biomethane plants in the Magdeburg Börde region. Each year, the plants process over 300,000 metric tons of renewable raw materials and biowaste. The biogas produced at these sites is processed into biomethane and fed into the public natural gas grids. The business unit is responsible for technical and commercial operations, the management of raw materials and material flows, and is committed to developing new projects that are expected to contribute to the business unit’s future growth.
Tasks that inspire you
As a Biogas Operations Engineer (m/f/d), you will be responsible for improving the performance of a total of six biomethane and biowaste digestion plants, including their auxiliary systems. Through your projects, you will ensure consistently high plant availability and/or a reduction in operational management efforts—while carefully observing occupational safety and environmental protection standards.
You will further develop our biogas and biowaste digestion plants from a technical standpoint by initiating and designing optimization projects and overseeing them from concept to implementation.
You will ensure that our plants operate reliably by planning, managing, and successfully completing maintenance and repair measures.
You will drive the digital transformation of our plants by identifying opportunities for automation and AI and implementing innovative solutions
You will continuously analyze plant performance and derive concrete improvement and safety measures from your analysis
You will actively manage your budget, keep an eye on goals and costs, and provide concrete recommendations to management
Skills That Set You Apart
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, process engineering, or energy engineering) or a comparable qualification
Several years of experience in technical plant operations, commissioning, or planning, ideally in the biogas or energy industry
Proficient in managing budgets, working with service providers, dealing with government agencies, and handling technical documentation
Strong focus on performance, a structured approach to project management, and a passion for hands-on work
Interest in digitalization and automation, as well as AI applications
Class B driver’s license
