Stadtwerke Treuchtlingen KU is the local energy provider for the city of Treuchtlingen, including its surrounding districts. Since 1909, Stadtwerke Treuchtlingen KU has served as the municipal utility responsible for supplying electricity, natural gas, and drinking water to the Treuchtlingen districts of Gundelsheim, Ober- and Unterheumödern, Graben, Auernheim, Schambach, and Grönhart. In 2013 and 2015, Stadtwerke Treuchtlingen KU took over the electricity supply not only for the city center but also for the districts that had previously been supplied by N-Ergie and Lechwerke (Gundelsheim district).
Since the 1990s, Stadtwerke has also been active in heat supply, initially only for the Altmühltherme. Since 2011, Stadtwerke has been operating a second heating network within the city limits around Hahnenkammstraße. Heat is supplied to customers both from a biomass cogeneration plant on Hahnenkammstraße and from the highly efficient combined heat and power plants at the Altmühltherme, which are fueled by biogas and natural gas.
Stadtwerke Treuchtlingen KU maintains an extensive utility network and utilizes a wide variety of technical facilities to ensure a reliable supply for the citizens of Treuchtlingen at all times. These include substations, switchgear, power and heat generation plants, gas pressure regulation systems, well systems, pumping stations, and elevated drinking water tanks. Recently, the Nagelberg elevated water tank—the centerpiece of Treuchtlingen’s water supply—was renovated, and the new switchhouse building on Kästleinsmühlenstraße—the heart of Treuchtlingen’s electricity supply—was brought up to the latest technical standards.
