Building Systems Technician

The building services department within Operations Management and Services ensures the smooth, 24/7 operation of the technical infrastructure for our media offerings. Our department plans, installs, and maintains systems for the sustainable energy supply of all Hessischer Rundfunk (hr) properties.
As part of the Central Control Room, you will work with the team to control and monitor key technical infrastructure, particularly the supply of electricity, heat, cooling, and water.

Your Responsibilities

  • Continuous monitoring of utility and building systems (including electricity, heating, cooling, and water)
  • Control and monitoring of energy supply systems via the building management system, with a focus on operational safety and cost-effectiveness
  • Analysis of malfunctions, immediate intervention when threshold values are exceeded, and implementation of appropriate measures
  • Receiving, processing, and coordinating fault reports in collaboration with internal departments and external service personnel
  • Monitoring of high- and low-voltage systems, emergency power systems, UPS systems, as well as rectifier and high-current battery systems
  • Monitoring of hazard detection systems, including fire alarm systems, police emergency call systems, elevator emergency call systems, and building alarm systems
  • Conducting, evaluating, and documenting load, consumption, and grid measurements

  • Planning and implementation of maintenance and testing measures while taking ongoing production and broadcast operations into account
  • Work in continuous shift operation (24/7)

Your Qualifications

  • Completed training in an electrical engineering field (e.g., energy and building systems, industrial engineering, automation technology); further training to become a master craftsman or technician is desirable
  • Several years of professional experience in the operation, monitoring, or maintenance of building services or energy supply systems, ideally in a control room or comparable operational environment
  • In-depth knowledge of building systems and building automation technology, as well as fault management
  • A responsible, organized, and reliable work ethic, along with strong decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, collegial approach to interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Office 365 applications and technical documentation
  • Willingness to work shifts, respond to malfunctions on short notice, and engage in ongoing professional development
  • Class B driver’s license and flexibility in scheduling
