Consultant (f/m/d) for fundamental energy industry issues
The Economics department compiles market and sector data and analyses for the energy and water industry in order to create facts and arguments for political discussions. These data and analyses form the basis for many decision-making processes in the economy, politics or at individual companies.
In this context, the department analyzes and evaluates scenarios, trends and innovations, analyzes and uses a wide range of data on energy and water supply and prepares these for politicians, member companies and the public. This is done in close cooperation with official institutions, expert committees, market and opinion research institutes and scientific institutions. The regular publications of the Economics department provide the industry, politicians and the public with up-to-date facts and figures.
Your tasks
- The focus of the work is the independent processing of fundamental energy and economic issues and the preparation of analyses, in particular the monitoring and analysis of electricity, gas and district heating prices, but also on electricity and gas markets in general, renewable energies, energy transition, heating markets and mobility, among other things
- Development and maintenance of automated data analyses using script-based programming, including data pre-processing, plausibility checks and graphical representations
- Analysis, monitoring and evaluation of surveys, studies and expert reports
- Representation of specialist interests vis-à-vis political institutions
- Advice and support for BDEW’s press and public relations work
- Support and collaboration in internal association committees and external representation of the association
- Media preparation of topics, e.g. through BDEW publications, specialist articles, webinars and the conception of information and discussion events as well as the technical and content-related preparation of lectures/presentations
Your profile
- Successfully completed university studies (diploma/master’s degree); relevant professional or industry experience, preferably in the energy or economics sector, is an advantage
- Sound knowledge of energy industry and energy policy contexts and legislation as well as analytical and strategic thinking and a good understanding of complex contexts and processes
- High affinity for data and experience with the use and evaluation of databases and large data sets as well as programming skills in Python, R or comparable languages, ideally knowledge of the Python packages Pandas and Matplotlib, in the maintenance and structuring of SQL databases and in working with collaborative version control systems (git)
- Confident manner, enjoy working independently, negotiation skills, good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prepare technical topics for the political field in a concise and understandable way, in writing and graphically
- Very good written and spoken English skills as well as very good knowledge of common Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
