Electrical Engineer Power Engineering (f/m/d) – Modeling and calculation of power grids

Together with our partner companies emsys VPP and emsys grid services, we at energy & meteo systems do our best every day to efficiently integrate renewable energies into electricity grids and markets. To this end, we offer our customers – electricity traders and grid operators worldwide – pioneering software products and full services. In addition to wind and solar power forecasts, these include virtual power plants for controlling decentralized energy systems and a platform concept for forward-looking grid planning.

Your tasks

  • Together with your team, you will further develop our software for calculating the predictive state of electricity grids and link information from various data sources.
  • You will be responsible for analyzing and validating the network models created as well as supporting and maintaining applications, including analyzing and rectifying errors – you will also be the technical contact person for customers.
  • You will also carry out load flow calculations, state estimations and contingency analyses in order to precisely determine the prognostic grid status.
  • You model AC and DC grids as well as hybrid systems and ensure the correct mapping of substations, lines, transformers and generation plants.
  • With your knowledge of SCADA data integration and telemetry data (measured values, switching states), you validate and prepare data for status estimation.
  • You are familiar with common exchange formats such as CIM/XML and UCT-DEF and ensure interoperability with third-party systems.

Your qualifications

  • You are welcome if you have a degree (Master’s or Diploma) in electrical engineering, power engineering or a comparable qualification.
  • You have very good programming skills in Python and experience with pandapower or PowSyBl in an open source environment.
  • You are already familiar with grid calculation methods (Newton-Raphson, Fast Decoupled, DC load flow) and their numerical properties.
  • You have impressive expertise in the Optimal Power Flow optimization method – with a focus on system stability, active and reactive power as well as ancillary conditions, e.g. thermal limits and voltage bands.
  • You are experienced in applying statistical analysis methods with regard to grid status data – keyword regression and time series analysis, error detection and plausibility checks.
  • Points of contact with these topics are an advantage: Microservices; Docker and Kubernetes; Apache Kafka; databases, ideally Neo4J; knowledge of Linux and REST APIs.
  • For optimal communication with your team and our customers, we can rely on your good language skills in German and English.
