Electrical Engineer, Power Engineering (m/f/d) – Modeling and Analysis of Power Grids
Here at energy & meteo systems, together with our partner companies emsys VPP and emsys grid services, we do our very best every day to efficiently integrate renewable energy into power grids and markets. To this end, we offer our customers — electricity retailers and grid operators worldwide — forward-looking software products and full-service solutions. In addition to wind and solar output forecasts, these include virtual power plants for controlling decentralized energy systems, as well as a platform concept for proactive grid planning.
Your Responsibilities
- Together with your team, you will continue to develop our software for calculating the predictive state of power grids and integrate information from various data sources.
- You will be responsible for analyzing and validating grid models, as well as supporting and maintaining applications—including troubleshooting and resolving issues—and you will also serve as the technical point of contact for customers.
- In addition, you will perform load flow calculations, state estimations, and contingency analyses to precisely determine the predictive grid state.
- You will model AC and DC grids as well as hybrid systems and ensure the correct representation of substations, transmission lines, transformers, and generation facilities.
- Using your knowledge of SCADA data integration and telemetry data (measurements, switch states), you validate and prepare data for state estimation.
- You are familiar with common exchange formats such as CIM/XML and UCT-DEF, and you ensure interoperability with third-party systems.
Your Qualifications
- We welcome applicants who have completed a degree (Master’s or Diplom) in electrical engineering, energy engineering, or a comparable field.
- You have very strong programming skills in Python and experience with pandapower or PowSyBl in an open-source environment.
- You are already familiar with grid calculation methods (Newton-Raphson, Fast Decoupled, DC load flow) and their numerical properties.
- You demonstrate strong expertise in the Optimal Power Flow optimization method—with a focus on system stability, active and reactive power, and constraints such as thermal limits and voltage bands.
- You routinely apply statistical analysis methods to network status data—specifically regression and time-series analysis, error detection, and plausibility checks.
- Experience with the following topics is a plus: microservices; Docker and Kubernetes; Apache Kafka; databases, ideally Neo4J; knowledge of Linux and REST APIs.
- To ensure optimal communication with your team and our customers, we can count on your strong language skills in German and English.
